Text imported from Excel is typically inserted into your Word document as 'plain text.' The formatting will match the text 'style' assigned in the current document to the *alias* being replaced (typically 'Normal' style).
Exceptions:
1.If the alias being replaced is typed in ALLCAPS (e.g., <<*Options*!Caption!**STATE*>>, the replacement will be in ALLCAPS.
2.If the alias is augmented with the (FMT) argument appended to the alias name. E.g., *Citations(FMT)* Example: let's say as a lawyer you have a case or statutory citation which has multiple type (case, italics, bold, etc.) changes over the course of the cite. Or as a researcher, you need to bring in a study citation that follows a required style. Pathagoras can now import the full, fully formatted citation (assuming it is typed correctly in Excel). And you can add 'friendly names' for selection purposes, and using !group! names to tie the aliases together list.
Example:
Copy and paste this table into your Alias (multichoice.xlsx) list. (Case and FullCite are in row 1, the 'alias name' row)

(If you don't know where your alias list is, type 'alias' onto a blank line in Word and press <Alt-G>.
Select 'Show Alias Spreadsheet'. Pathagoras will open the proper spreadsheet for you.)
Save and close the spreadsheet.
[*Alias Variable*] calls:
To call a fully formatted variable, type a typical alias reference, but add "(FMT)" (no quoted, ALLCAPS) to the call, within the two stars:
[*FullCite*] (normal call]
[*FullCite(FMT)*] (formatted call)
==================================================
<<*Options*. . .>> calls:
If you want to call in just a 'plain' citation via an <<*Options* call, use this command:
<<*Options**FullCite*>> or <<*Options(radio)**FullCite*>> (normal call)
To call in a citation formatted via an <<*Options* call, add "(FMT)" immediately after alias name (in parens, ALLCAPS,within the two stars):
<<*Options*!casename!**FullCite(FMT)*>>
<<*Options(radio)*!casename!**FullCite(FMT)*>>
If you want to provide the users a friendly name (e.g., a 'prompt'), use a !groupname! to call the 'Case' (short) name via an AskOption, and an <<*Options* . . . block for the actual insert.. Here's an example. You can copy and paste this 'setup' onto a blank Word page (or insert it into an existing interview):
<<*AskOptions*!casename!*Case**>>
For a 'simple' (i.e., the normal) return of text, type this:
<<*Options*!casename!**FullCite*>>
For a formatted return:
<<*Options*!casename!**FullCite(FMT)*>>
(Press <Alt-P> to process if you are not calling your document in from a DropDown List.)
