You can ask Pathagoras to automatically scan your documents for any bracketed variables immediately upon the display of the Instant Database screen.

1.Display the Instant Database screen (typically, press <Alt-D>.

2.Click the red Power Tools button.

3.Check the AutoScan check-box.

   While it saves you a click of the Scan button, it is probably best not to activate (or keep activated) this feature once you have begun to accumulate a significant number of client/customer records. The scan triggered by AutoScan initially scans the underlying document regardless of your intent to call an Existing Record. And if the document is a big one with lots of variables, you will have wasted quite a few seconds before you are presented the opportunity to recall a record.. If you have not enabled AutoScan, you still have the option to Scan, but are not forced into it.
