Delete if Blank: You may wish to complete a document on which you are working with the replacement text you current have and complete the remaining variables at a later time. Pathagoras lets you do this. Simply make sure the "Delete if blank" box above the first line of the replacement text column is unchecked. By the same token, if you wish to delete a variable from the editing screen if its value is 'blank', check the 'Delete if blank' box. ('Delete if Blank' will also remove any trailing commas and spaces and blank lines so no empty space remains.)
Uncheck 'Delete if blank' box to retain any variables for which data is not currently available.
You can make this check-box 'sticky' (i.e., always checked) with a 'shift-click'. Undo the 'always checked' condition with another 'shift-click.'
If you have Delete if Blank set, but don't want a particular variable deleted, type () (a pair of facing parentheses) in the right column. This signals Pathagoras to do nothing with that variable.
New in 2024: Delete NOW. If you want to delete a variable from your document even though Delete if Blank is not checked, use your delete word as the value for the variable in the right column. By default, the delete term is '_delete_', but you can set your own delete word (including a single character) in the Pathagoras Settings (Custom Settings) screen. We do recommend that, whatever word you choose that it be a truly unique, and that it be all lower case. 'Delete' --without the enclosing underscores-- might actually be a desired word.) Single letter suggestion: _d_ (Yes it can be that simple.)
