Can I use characters other than 'square brackets' to indicate variables?

You certainly may. Any one or two characters can be used. They should be characters that will not naturally appear in the document. So parentheses as in "(Client Name)" are not a good choice since parentheses appear so frequently in 'normal' text.

For appearances sake, the character set should appear to be enclosing. <&Client Name&> looks more 'enclosing' in nature than let's say "*#ClientName%@". The latter is legal, just not apparent.

Before scanning for variables, you must reset the IDB boundary characters that you want Pathagoras to look for. Do so via the Instant Database 'Settings & Options' screen.
