A standard installation places the PathSmart, SaveSmart and Document Assembly modules at the 'top level' of the toolbar.  You may wish other features (the ones you find yourself using a lot, or ones that you don't want to forget about) to be brought to the top-most level. This section will show you  how easy it is to Create a customized "MyPathagoras" toolbar.

 

Word2007 and later Word versions significantly modified the method of customizing personal toolbars. See MyPathagoras Ribbon for Word2007 for the steps needed to customize your Quick Access Toolbar.

 

1.Right-click in the grey area of the toolbar area. A dropdown list of all available toolbars will appear. Click the 'Customize' button at the very bottom of the list.

2.Click the "Toolbars" tab of the small window that opens.

3.Click the "New. . ." button at the right of the window. You can name the new toolbar in the next screen. We propose MyPathagoras, but you can call it anything that you want.

4.Make sure that Normal.dot is the template name showing on the second line.

5.Click OK. A small, empty toolbar (not even wide enough to show its full title), appears. You will fill this with your favorite commands.

Note: The large 'Customize' screen must remain open during the following steps.

6.Ctrl-Drag and drop your favorite elements from the Pathagoras tool bar, including from the Pathagoras drop down features list, and from any other tool bar, for that matter. The toolbar below contains elements that are not exclusive to Pathagoras.

7. When done, close the Customize window. You can leave the toolbar floating or you can drag it up to the toolbar area.

8. Exit Word.

9.As you are exiting Word, you will (or should be) asked:

•if you wish to save the changes to the 'normal.dot' (or normal or global template) file. Say YES.

•if you wish to save changes to the 'pathagoras.dot' file. Say NO.

When you return to Word, your MyPathagoras toolbar should appear. It will appear in addition to the standard Pathagoras toolbar. You may hide the standard toolbar by clicking in the grey area of the toolbar area and unchecking the Pathagoras entry in the resulting list.

When you upgrade Pathagoras, your customized MyPathagoras toolbar will not be overwritten.

  Perhaps you don't want a whole 'nuther toolbar dedicated to Pathagoras. That's okay. You can easily slide one or two elements from the Pathagoras dropdown features list up into the main body of the existing 4 element toolbar.

   The steps are similar, except you don't create a new toolbar (steps 2 thru 5 above). Just click Customize as described in Step 1 above and then just Ctrl-Drag and drop you favorite elements from the Pathagoras dropdown features list into the main bar. Actually, you can drop the elements into any other portion of your screen that will accept the drag and drop. You may be pleasantly surprised at the amount of flexibility that Word2003 (and prior  versions, but not 2007 or 2010, which has its own rules and restriction) allows.
